SPECIAL PROJECTS

This list does not necessarily reflect what I think is the best of my own work. Often what I like most about these projects is the creation of people I have worked with, and some projects are included simply because I enjoyed working on them.

Kölner Philharmonie
layout/implementation/project management

The Kölner Philharmonie relaunch in 2004 was my first HTML/CSS project for m.i.r. media. The emphasis both on accessibility and design without compromising either and the task of creating such a complex site in CSS in 2004 was an adventurous and a successful one for which we won a deserved Red Dot Award. Each individual page has its own layout within the overall site design, a great magazine style concept and I don't think there's any website quite like it on the internet.

I worked on this site from 2003 until 2009 and loved working on it in every capacity; layout, development and management. The challenge of designing each individual page to stand out on its own and yet fit well with the rest of the site was very rewarding. It has since been relaunched with a design adapted to the new Kölner Philharmonie CI.

Philharmonie Luxembourg
layout/implementation/ project management

Jörg Hejkal took so many really good photographs of the stunning Philharmonic concert hall when it opened in 2005, that working with them to layout the individual pages had to be a joy!

Guinness
"Discover your Dark Side" Halloween promotion
concept/character design/animation

The characters and props are all hand drawn and it was so great to get back into 2D animation for a while, that I actually did a large part of the character design and animation for free. As the game concept was also my own, the project was a real little highlight for me in 2005.

A Monkey's Tale
assistant animation/animation

My first job in animation, I learned so much working on this film. The animation isn't breathtaking, but it is entirely hand-coloured, and there are some beautiful backgrounds. However minute - and remote - it is nice to have a credit in a film directed by Jean-Francois Laguionie!

Ted Sieger's Wildlife
layout/posing

This cute series of short films for pre-school children was a very relaxing project to work on and a lot of fun. I could spend my life working like this.

Werner III
assistant animation/compositing

I don't really like Werner, but I got to go to Saigon to work on this film, an experience I'm still talking about. Any topic you care to raise, I can retaliate with a "Well, when I was in Vietnam ..."

servitude

I have a cat called Tillman, whose uncontrollable appetite resulted in the setting up of a virtual self-help webspace for obese cats which due to a lack of computer literacy on the part of its target audience evolved into this portfolio as you see it now. I was footing the bill, after all.
